The title of his talk, <strong><em>"Walking on Water: The Wisdom of Jesus from Traditional Arabi Sources"</em></strong> is taken from his upcoming book, whose introduction was written by Kentucky writer and poet, Wendell Berry.<br>Hamza Yusuf was born in Washington State and raised in Northern California. In 1977, he became Muslim and subsequently traveled to the Muslim world and studied for ten years in the U.A.E., in Saudi Arabia, and in North and West Africa. He received teaching licenses in various Islamic subjects from several well-known scholars in these various countries. He has traveled all over the world giving talks on Islam. These are the sacraments we are being called into."</em></strong> <div> <br>Since 1977 <strong>Coleman Barks</strong> has collaborated with various scholars of the Persian language to bring to American the poetry of the 13th Century mystic Jelaluddin Rumi. This work has resulted in twenty-one volumes, including the best-selling Essential Rumi in 1995, two appearances on Bill Moyers' PBS specials, and inclusion in the prestigious Norton Anthology of World Masterpieces. Dr. Barks taught American Literature and Creative Writing at various universities for thirty-four years. In May of 2006 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Tehran.
